Fire prevention is a core part of our mission at St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 13. Through inspections, education, and community partnerships, we work to reduce fire risks before they become emergencies — saving lives, property, and resources.

• Smoke Alarm Program: Free smoke alarms and installation assistance for residents in need
• Fire Code Inspections: Compliance checks for local businesses and public buildings
• Pre-Incident Planning: Risk surveys of commercial properties to aid emergency operations
• Burn Safety: Guidance on legal open burning, fire pits, and seasonal burn bans

Community Fire Safety Tips

• Install smoke alarms on every level of your home and test them monthly
• Keep flammable materials at least 3 feet away from heaters
• Never leave candles or open flames unattended
• Practice a home fire escape plan with your family
• Use outdoor fire pits safely and follow local burn guidelines
