Public education and prevention save lives before the fire starts.
Fire Prevention
Fire prevention is a core part of our mission at St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 13. Through inspections, education, and community partnerships, we work to reduce fire risks before they become emergencies — saving lives, property, and resources.
Our Fire Prevention Programs
- Public Education: School visits, community events, and fire safety presentations
- Smoke Alarm Program: Free smoke alarms and installation assistance for residents in need
- Fire Code Inspections: Compliance checks for local businesses and public buildings
- Pre-Incident Planning: Risk surveys of commercial properties to aid emergency operations
- Burn Safety: Guidance on legal open burning, fire pits, and seasonal burn bans
Community Fire Safety Tips
- Install smoke alarms on every level of your home and test them monthly
- Keep flammable materials at least 3 feet away from heaters
- Never leave candles or open flames unattended
- Practice a home fire escape plan with your family
- Use outdoor fire pits safely and follow local burn guidelines
