Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 13 provides prompt and skilled Emergency Medical Services (EMS) as a core part of our emergency response capabilities. We are often the first on scene in critical medical situations, providing life-saving interventions and stabilizing patients before ambulance transport.
Our Medical Response Capabilities
- Baseline Certification – EMR: All members meet or exceed the Emergency Medical Responder standard.
- Majority EMT-B Certified: Most personnel are trained as Emergency Medical Technicians – Basic (EMT-B), providing pre-hospital care such as:
- Oxygen administration
- Vital signs monitoring
- CPR and AED use
- Basic airway and bleeding control
- Medication assistance (as allowed)

- Cardiac arrest, chest pain, and stroke symptoms
- Breathing difficulties
- Motor vehicle accidents with injuries
- Falls and trauma
- Seizures and diabetic emergencies
- Allergic reactions
- Unresponsive or unconscious patients
